Today was a "Take it Easy" day. Our first stop was "the corner in Winslow, AZ. There was such a fine sight to see." If this does not seem familiar to you, I am referring to the Eagles song, "Take It Easy". It was complete with a flatbed Ford only there were four girls instead of just one. This didn't mean much to the kids but Doug and I thought it was cool.
Along route 66 are kitschy little stops to see. From the twin arrows to the teepee motel which inspired the cozy cone motel in the movie Cars.
We also made the trip through the petrified forest and the painted desert. Beautiful.
Our last stop was Santa Fe, NM. I really wish we would have arrived earlier. In the plaza is St. Francis Cathedral. Paige was really excited because he is her favorite saint. The outside was beautiful. I can only imagine what it looks like on the inside. For dinner we stopped at a pizzeria. It was delicious. By this time it was almost 7:30 and we still needed to drive another hour to reach our campground. Rather than setting up camp in the dark, I decided to play my hotel card. Well worth it I might add.
